Christine Vega is a fourth-year doctoral student in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) Social Science and Comparative Education at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She holds a Master of Education from the University of Utah's School of Education, Culture, and Society. Born and raised in Pacoima, she is proud community activist merging both academia and organizing. During her pregnancy and birth of her now two-year-old Janitzio, her work focus shifted to research Chicana Latina Ph.D. mother attrition and retention. Currently, she is working with and organizing with Mothers of Color in Academia de UCLA and our project, Chicana M(other)work. Christine loves teaching, motivating and challenging her students and serving as a resource to her community. She’s an avid foodie, loves a good cup of coffee, playing catch with Janitzio, painting, and reading.
